Another modern release by El Toros long running R&B serie. With Laura B & The Moonlighters the label chosed very well to continue this set of R&B releases, so Laura B is not just a great voice and a great show act, the band is also very popular and so this album was long awaited. The band deliver their goods with 14 absolute brilliant produced tracks and the right feeling for the music they play. They don\'t sound commercial a minute on this great album and the 3 piece horn section deliver a sound like a whole orchestra, along with the rhythm section on bass, drums and piano. BUT, Laura stands on front and she sounds like \"front\". A big voice packed this album fine some of the finest what U.K. R&B scene can give. A outstanding album for lovers of R&B. Mad House Jump

Well it seems that El Toro Records once more hit the jackpot! This Jump & Shout by Lady Laura and her Moonlighters is a wonderful stylish record in the style of LaVern Baker, Big Maybelle or Ruth Brown to give you some ideas. The newest sensation form the UK Laura B, knows here stuff pretty well and that is something you can't deny when listening to this album. From the swinging Ruth Brown rendition on Jump Jack Jump, a tune that even years after its original release is still as hot as the classic version, over the romantic Doo wop classic Then You Can Tell Me Goodbeye you can hear the craftsmanship on this album. Even better is the cover version of Jerry Lee Lewis Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On although this tune was 100% pure rock and roll, the version of Miss Laura B. will make you completely forget the original one. Leading Track No Mama, no Papa defines the sound of this band for you without using a single word. It also gives away that this music is made to dance and dance is what thee will do, specially when you listen to As long As I'm Moving', another excellent dancing track. Fourteen outstanding Rhythm and blues tracks are compiled for you pleasure and that's the only way to express it. Jump and Shout is a great album! And actually it is not that strange if you consider the musicians working on this record. Including members of Ocean's Seven, Juke Joint Jump, Sugar Ray's Flying Fortress, The Big Six, Alabama Slammers and The Mike Sanchez Band, to name but a few, Laura B collected the best of the best to fill up her backing band. A seven piece R&B band that make you jump & shout without doubt! Mr Blue Boogie. http://www.billybop.be

Here's Laura B and The Moonlighters' debut album. She's been called the UK's new diva of Rhythm 'n' blues . Though I wouldn't go that far, I must admit she has a pretty good voice, with jump blues influences and some Ella Fitzgerald thrown in for good measure (ok, she ain't Ella, but who is?). The 14 songs are all covers but choosen with taste including stuff by Ruth Brown, Wynona Carr, Lavern Baker, Big Maybelle& you get the idea. The Moonlighters themselves are a solid and very tight backing band but that' s not a surprise when you see their pedigree. They're all veterans from well known jump, jive and rhythm 'n' blues bands (Ocean's Seven, Juke Joint Jump, Sugar Ray's Flying Fortress, Alabama Slammers and The Mike Sanchez Band). My sole regret is the production and the sound of the whole thing that I find a bit thin, especially for this kind of music. I would have loved to hear a fuller sound with juicy saxes and warm drums (more in the style of Red Peters or The Jive Bombers). Anyway that's a minor flaw and it remains a very enjoyable album, especially for a debut. Fred "Virgil" Turgis - Jumpin from 6 to 6
